Service description:
Contraceptive Services within the ISHS
The majority of contraceptive needs in Northamptonshire should be met/provided by your General Practitioner (GP). The ISHS are here to provide complex contraception on behalf of the GPs and not routine contraception. We are however, able to provide all methods of contraception if required but you will be encouraged to obtain your on-going contraception from your GP. The service we provide is a free and confidential service. ISHS offer both appointments and drop-in clinics and you should check the details of what contraceptive methods are available at each individual site before attending. You should also check whether you require an appointment or you may drop in.

ISHS are able to offer the following methods of contraception:

emergency contraception
combined hormonal pill
combined hormonal patches
progestogen-only pill
contraceptive injections
contraceptive implants (Nexplanon)
intrauterine device (IUD/coil)
intrauterine system (IUS)/coil)
female condoms
pregnancy testing and onward referral for unintended pregnancy if appropriate
chlamydia screening/testing
plus advice and referral to other services if appropriate

If you need Emergency Contraception outside of clinic times then it is available from the following providers.

ISHS also run services for young people in community settings, such as colleges and youth centres. These community drop-ins offer emergency contraception, condoms, contraceptive pills and pregnancy tests, as well as Chlamydia tests and advice and referrals to other services if needed. Again, you will be encouraged to obtain on-going contraception from your GP.
