Service description:
Child and Adolescent Bereavement Services (CABS) offer individual and group bereavement counselling to children and adolescents in the Northamptonshire area. They also offer support to families where a member has a terminal illness.

CABS is run by a full-time qualified bereavement coordinator (with administration support). They are assisted by (fully-trained) volunteer bereavement counsellors, who specialise in areas such as person-centred counselling, psychodynamics, and cognitive behaviours.

Support can take place in a school setting, at home, or at the Northampton General Hospital (Children's Out-Patients Department). The location of appointments is agreed between the families and the counsellor to provide the most suitable package of care to the child or young person.

CABS also offers support to parents, carers, school staff, or any agency that care for (or are working with) a bereaved child or adolescent. Training can be provided to schools and agencies.
