Sir Christopher Hatton Academy: admissions information

​Sir Christopher Hatton Academy, The Pyghtle, Wellingborough, Northants NN8 4RP

Oversubscription criteria: September 2016 entry

Following the allocation of places to pupils who have a statement of special educational needs which names the academy as appropriate provision, where applications for admissions exceed the academy’s statutory admission number, the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide which pupils shall be admitted.

  1. Children in public care (looked after children) or previously in public care
  2. Children of employees, Directors and academy representatives of Hatton Academies Trust:
    1.  Where the Director or academy representative is a serving member at the time of the application for a place.
    2. Where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the academy is made, or
    3. The member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
  3. As a Specialist Mathematics and Computing Academy, the Board of Directors have decided that 10% of places are allocated on the basis of aptitude in Information Technology established by tests taken at the academy. 
  4. Sibling Link. The presence of an elder brother or sister at Sir Christopher Hatton Academy at the time of the pupil’s intended admission. For the purposes of this criterion, ‘sibling’ is taken to include a stepbrother/sister, half-brother/sister, or child who is adopted or fostered, in all cases provided they are living at the same address. 
  5. Attendance at a member academy of Hatton Academies Trust: Victoria Primary Academy and Oakway Academy and any other primary school joining the trust before September 2016. 15% of places will be allocated to each academy.
  6. Attendance at a primary school that has traditional links to Sir Christopher Hatton Academy. These are: All Saints CEVA Primary School; Croyland Primary School; Earls Barton Junior School; Freemans Endowed C of E Junior Academy; Great Doddington Primary School; Little Harrowden Community Primary School, Mears Ashby C of E Endowed Primary; Park Junior School; Redwell Primary School; Ruskin Junior School; Oakway Academy; Our Lady’s Catholic Junior School; Victoria Primary Academy; Wilby C of E Primary School. 
  7. Attendance at a primary school in Wellingborough not mentioned above or from outside the Wellingborough area.

Where there are more applications than remaining places, these will be allocated on a random basis.

Oversubscription criteria 2015-2016 entry

Following the allocation of places to pupils who have a statement of special educational needs which names the school as appropriate provision, where applications for admissions exceed the remaining number of available places, the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide which pupils shall be admitted.

  1. Children in public care (looked after children) or previously in public care.
  2. As a specialist mathematics and computing school the governors have decided that 10% of places are allocated on the basis of aptitude in Information Technology established by tests taken at the school. Please contact the school for further details.
  3. The presence of an elder brother or sister at Sir Christopher Hatton Academy at the time of the pupil’s intended admission.
  4.  Attendance at the Hatton Academies Trust Primary Academy (Victoria Primary Academy).
  5. Attendance at a traditional contributory primary school: Diamond Learning Community (formerly Oakway Infant and Junior schools), Freemans, Little Harrowden, Mears Ashby, Park, Redwell. The purpose of this is the enhance partner school links and smooth the transition between phases.
  6. Attendance at a primary school with links to any Wellingborough secondary school or from outside the Wellingborough area.

Where there are more applications than remaining places, these will be allocated on a random basis in accordance with the local authority’s procedures.
