Service description:
Children with speech, language, communication or eating/drinking difficulties have equal access to the Speech and Language Therapy Service regardless of age, severity of disorder, geographical location, economic status, linguistic and cultural background.
Service is offered to children (from birth to 18 years) with developmental speech, language and/or communication difficulties some of whom have additional behaviour and/or learning disabilities. Referrals are also accepted for children with non-complex eating/drinking difficulties, although this is subject to certain limitations.
The service provides evidence-based interventions that anticipate and respond to the needs of individuals who experience speech, language, communication and/or swallowing difficulties.

Speech and Language Therapists (SLT's) work in partnership with these individuals and their families and with other professionals and agencies to reduce the impact of these often isolating difficulties on an individual's wellbeing and their ability to participate in daily life.

The service also works to increase public awareness of communication disorders, what can cause them, and how to prevent them occurring.
