Our team focuses on Children with Disabilities (CWD) and our work is varied, complex and rewarding. Our social workers work with a number of agencies and are expected to have the skills and knowledge to work with children and young people who are CIN, subject to CP, safeguarding and adoption. We have a very strong team ethos, sharing skills and knowledge at all levels. Strong supervision and visible leadership is very important, and evident, and, as with the rest of our social care colleagues, we have the opportunity to take advantage of a significant number of training courses. We are currently implementing Signs of Safety at Northamptonshire County Council, an internationally successful model that will transform the way we work with children and families. The Children with Disabilities fieldwork team is one component of the Children with Special Educational needs and Disabilities Service. We work closely with a wide range of colleagues which include the Education Health and Care Team, Specialist Support Services, Sensory Impairment Service, Educational Psychologists, Short Break and Residential homes as well as a wide range of health professionals including Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. We expect all staff to place children and young people at the centre of all we do. The recent SEND Area Inspection (May 2017) stated that • The local area has embraced co-production, consulting with children, young people and their families in order to improve services. • The voice of the child is typically captured well in EHCPs • Local area leaders display a clear commitment to co-production with children, young people and their families • At individual level, the ‘one page profile’ is proving an increasingly useful tool for capturing the voice of the child and identifying provision that will meet their needs effectively. Northamptonshire County Council is committed to ensuring caseloads are of manageable level.
