Free subscription resources

We pay the subscription fee for the following list of websites so that our library users can benefit from access.

Do I need to be a library member?

If you are not a full member of the library, you can become a virtual member in order to access subscription resources available on the e-Library from home or office.

How does it work?

When you visit the premium subscription websites from your home or office you will need to enter your library card number in the box provided.

Some resources may only be available in certain libraries due to licensing requirements - any restrictions are listed in the entry for each resource.

Complete Business Reference Adviser (COBRA)

​COBRA is a practical and comprehensive resource for anyone wanting to start a business, write a business or marketing plan or conduct research into a new market.

Mint UK

​Mint UK is a comprehensive database of company information in the UK. It is a valuable business intelligence tool for sales and marketing.

Due to licensing requirements Mint UK is not available through home access, and can only be used at Northampton Central Library and Wellingborough Library. You will also need to be logged in by a member of staff.

​SimplyDocs is a collection of free and ready to use documents and contract templates, which will allow you to fulfil your business’s legal requirements efficiently.

Due to licensing requirements SimplyDocs is not available through home access, and can only be used in your local library. You will need to be logged in by a member of staff.

CREDO Reference

​CREDO Reference provides over 1,000 reference books. It contains dictionaries, encyclopaedias and also contains a crossword solver.

Encylopedia Britannica

We have 3 online editions of the Encyclopaedia Britannica on offer.

Oxford Art

​Contains not only Grove Art Online but also Oxford Companion to Western Art, the Encyclopaedia of Aesthetics and the Concise Oxford Dictionary of Art terms.

Oxford Dictionaries Pro

​Contains up to date online dictionaries, thesauruses, and language reference content. Also includes specialist guides for legal and technical writing.

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography

​Tells the stories of 60,000 men and women who shaped Britain's past. You can discover over 2,000 years of history through the lives of famous Britons.

Oxford English Dictionary

​Tracing the evolution of more than 600,000 words over the last 1,500 years through 2.5 million quotations from a wide range of sources, from classic literature and periodicals to film scripts and pop songs.

Oxford Music

​Incorporating Grove Music Online. Now has in addition, the Oxford Dictionary of Music and the Oxford Companion to Music.

​Explore a host of subjects from a range of dictionaries and companions to give a comprehensive answer to all your queries. Contains over 500 colour maps and flags, 2,500 researched web links, 12,000 images and over 1 million entries across 25 subjects.

UK Who's Who and Who Was Who

Provides up to date information about over 33,000 influential people from all walks of life, worldwide. Containing autobiographical listings of people from around the globe who have an impact on British life. Who Was Who includes over 100,000 people listed in previous editions of Who's Who.

Find My Past can only be accessed in the library on Northamptonshire Libraries People's Network computers due to licensing restrictions.
